DUSC/SSERC CPD Workshops

DUSC will try to accommodate your requirements as regards to the CPD courses in terms of duration, length of time and when held (twilight, IS day/half day etc).

Should you be interested in any of these ideas, please contact dusc@sserc.org.uk

Courses which can be offered include:

  1. Using ICT:

These topics would be ‘hands-on’, with examples to work through. Comprehensive notes in electronic form for participants on using all of the topics will be available at the end of the workshop.

In the Case of RasMol and RasTop, the application programs will also be made available as will files of molecules to display.
    1. Preparing electronic worksheets in Word
    2. Preparing electronic worksheets in Excel
    3. Using RasMol and RasTop
    4. Getting familiar with using drawing packages
    5. URLs: For S1/S2 level to S3-S6.
  2. Chemistry Demonstrations for 5-14:

A chance to see some demonstrations and try some experiments suitable for 5-14 Science. These are linked to the Level they could be used for. The demonstration list along with pupil activity sheets where appropriate, model answers to them and model Risk Assessments for each demonstration and experiment will be made available in electronic form to participants after the workshop. Can be offered either to staff or pupils.

Also suitable for physicists and biologists with little experience of chemistry.

In addition, the following topics can be arranged:

  • the employment of ‘enterprising’ approaches to learning and teaching, e.g. promoting pupil-talk in assessment, concept development and the consideration of issues
  • making chemistry attractive through the use of investigative approaches
  • Intermediate 1 chemistry
  • Formative assessment in Chemistry
  • Assessment Issues in Chemistry
